I’ve explained to Chairman Krusee the history on this (and the length of time it’s taken to get a meeting, etc.). He is willing to become very engaged in ABIA’s agenda and has agreed to meet with us and help in whatever way possible. He knows you, John, and has a great deal of respect for you. Could we sit down with him on Friday (or sometime before the meeting with TxDOT) with you there to brief him on our agenda?

Also, filing the federal application is not a question of filling out a form but of doing a pretty comprehensive analysis of the air service problems that are trying to be resolved, defining a plan to resolve them and of getting local and/or state funding committed to support the application.

That can make preparation of the application a fairly substantial project. I have not yet read the DOT document in detail, so I don’t know what the requirements are this year. average air fares are higher than the air fares for all communities;
a portion of the cost of the activity contemplated by the community is provided from local, non-airport-revenue sources
a public-private partnership has been or will be established to facilitate air carrier service to the public
improved service will bring the material benefits of scheduled air transportation to a broad section of the traveling public, including businesses, educational institutions, and other enterprises whose access to the National Air Transportation System is limited; and
the assistance will be used in a timely fashion.

I’ve attached the DOT for additional info. In short, the funding issue depends on how willing is TxDOT to help take the leadership position and how much the smaller communities want to ante up.

AUS is too large to be eligible for this US DOT funding. AUS can only write a letter of support as part of the application. The smaller communities would need to provide some kind of 25% match support for the service, similar to the way Tyler outlined in its successful application.
