LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF TEXAS OPPOSES THE TRANS-TEXAS CORRIDOR ROUTE
The League of Women Voters of Texas does support a transportation system to move people and goods that includes a variety of transportation modes, with emphasis on increased public transportation services and other viable alternatives; is efficient, convenient and cost effective; serves all segments of the popoulation and diverse geographic needs; minimizes harmful effects on the environment; is integrated with land use; and is supported by extensive public education.
However, the League of Women Voters of Texas opposes the proposed route for the Trans-Texas Corridor for the following reasons:
Recommendations from local and regional planning groups were not implemented in the route selection.
Concerns from local governments on potential economic and environmental effects have not been addressed.
Major Texas centers of population are not connected in a seamless fashion.
Darlene Hicks, President
League of Women Voters of Texas
